Fall is comin' boys and girls!!

The weather is finally starting to cool down a bit, the leaves are getting ready to change, and it's time to get the food plots ready to rock!  Have you got all your food plots ready to go?  If not, stop by our new store and check out what we have to offer and if we don't have it in stock, we can order it!  The deer out there really need a great variety of food to not only attract wildlife into your area but keep them there as well!

Well the BIG topic going on right now is the proposition to reintroduce Elk around the Peck Ranch area.  This has created quite a stir between many of the residents around the region.  The elk are a magnificent creature that once heavily populated the area in the late 1800s but were moved out or killed.  This idea of bringing the elk back has been in the works for more than the last past 10 years.  Efforts to bring the elk back 10 years ago came to a halt when issues arose with concerns regarding the condition of the habitat and the species health.  It was put on the back burner but is now being brought back into review.

Many people have a lot of mixed feelings about the subject in concerns to their property, fencing, crops, etc. This is to be expected when people are unfamiliar with an animal as large as the elk being brought into the region.  The best advice that I can give to anyone with questions regarding this topic is to locate your local Conservation Department and tell them what your concerns are, what precautions are they taking to make this run as smoothly as possible.  This is something that they have given great consideration and careful examination, before deciding whether they wanted to try to complete this project.  They are absolutely dedicated to paying attention to the concerns and questions of the regions land owners and they intend on completing this project as carefully and accurate as they can.

Speaking on my behalf, I would love to see the elk back in the region.  It will provide a great opportunity for the conservation to bring a new hunting season in the area.  This, of course, would be after a few years of a growing population.  People often times enjoy watching the elk just for the fact that they are an astounding creature.  This could generate more tourism through the area which can, in turn, generate some additional income to local businesses.  For more information, visit www.missouriconservation.org and search "elk restoration".
